Maybe it’s the fact that the clocks have changed, and it’s already dark by 5:30pm. Maybe it’s a bit of leftover Halloween sentiment. Maybe it’s just a coincidence! But several of the shows playing in Toronto this week focus on darker subjects – ghosts, greed, the end of the world… One bright point is the fact that they’re all $25 or less per ticket – and this week’s Cheap Theatre actually includes a Mirvish show and two Soulpepper shows! So brave the newly dark evening and go see some Cheap Theatre!
Happy November! It’s cold – it actually snowed already, which… no thanks. But in happier news, there’s a lot of fun theatre playing in the city this week! Here are our Play Listings for the coming few days. If it’s highlighted in red with two asterisks, that means that Megan, our Founding Editor, highly recommends it. Happy theatre-ing!
Well, the mayoral election is over. And whether or not you’re entirely happy with the results, now we can focus on more important things – like Halloween! In between planning your costume, and figuring out where you’d like to spend the evening (or if you’d like to spend the evening watching scary movies and eating candy at home), it’s worth noting that lots of Halloween-themed theatre will be going on in the city this week. Here’s a list of five spooky shows with tickets costing no more than $25 each. Enjoy, and Happy Halloween!
Instead of our typical five-show recommendation, this week’s Cheap Theatre listing is a suggestion to check out the Global Cabaret Festival, which is being put on by Soulpepper. To quote the event site, “the Global Cabaret Festival lineup is composed of Songbooks, Feature Performances, and Cabarets, encompassing a wide range of theatrical themes and forms including jazz, pop, opera, musical theatre and the best of classic cabaret standards”. With such a wide variety of styles and performances, there’s bound to be cabarets that appeal to any theatregoer. Check out the performance schedule here. Tickets can be bought online, starting at $23 ($20 for students), with discounts if you buy packages of 3 or 6! Definitely sounds like some good, Cheap Theatre to me!
October’s just flying by, isn’t it? Probably because it’s such a busy month for everyone. The theatres of Toronto are no exception – we have an extraordinarily high number of shows in this week’s listings, and are happy to share them with you below. Our Editor, Mike, had a few hard decisions to make – but anything highlighted in red, with two asterisks before it, comes highly recommended by him.
